Brew your own

It's really easy & what's more, you will discover that the beer you make is of  good quality. Here is some information about what you need to make beer & also a description of the process which shows you how very easy it is. It takes 1 to 3 weeks to make a batch & during that time you will spend a couple of hours of your time on the brew.

Once you have your Complete Beer Brewing Kit, you are ready to make your first batch. Instructions are provided and it will guide you throughout the entire brewing process. You will be using a canned beer ingredient kit which is extremely easy. A "fermenter chiller" will be provided free for maintaining the fermentation temperature at the ideal 21 to 25 Degree C. Liquid yeast will also be provided free to ensure that your first batch it a success.

You can make even greater beers by using additional ingredients like hops, yeast and malt, to enhance the overall profile of the beer.

Basically, home brewing from a can of beer ingredient kit can be done in 4 stages:

Stage 1 - Preparation

Clean & sterilise your equipment.

Stir and dissolve the content of the beer ingredient kit (remember to keep the provided sachet of yeast away from heat) and 1kg of dextrose, in 2L of very hot water in the fermenter.

Top up with cold water to the 23 litre mark. If your fridge capacity doesn't allow you to cool down so much water at one time, you can add 3kg ice directly into the wort and top up with ambient temperature water.

Note: As water makes up about 90% the of the beer you are drinking, make sure that the ice and water you use is clean drinking water, preferably mineral water. Bottles of mineral water can be purchased at leading supermarket at a very affordable price, around $0.80 per 1.5L bottle.

Aerate the wort by stirring vigorously.

Stage 2 - Fermentation

Sprinkle the yeast onto the surface and stir for a minute.

Seal the fermenter, fit the airlock and half fill it with cool boiled water.

Allow the brew to ferment. Try to keep the temperature in the fermenter reasonably constant in the mid 20's (depending on the stated range from the beer ingredient kit) and try to avoid it falling below about 18ºC. Typically this takes about 5 to 7days.

Fermentation is finished when the reading from the hydrometer stabilized over 2 days.

Stage 3 - Bottling

Sterilise the bottles.

Use 2 carbonation drops for one 750ml bottle.

Fill each bottle to within 5cm of the top.

Seal each bottle with the screw top provided.

Shake gently then stand the bottles in a warm spot (around 25 to 28ºC.) for about a week. It is ready for sampling.

Stage 4 - Maturation

Homebrew improves greatly with bottle ageing and will not go off in the bottle at all. A three month old beer will be very much better than a one month old beer. So, try to age your beers, you will enjoy them much more. In fact, you will be amazed at how much your aged beers have improved.

Don't forget to label and date each batch. Keep samples to try at 3, 6 and 12 months old. Take notes about how they taste then you will see for yourself how this amazing improvement works.
